The PAP Bite Indicator Ring (known in Italian as PAP anello avvisatore di abboccata) is a practical mechanical visual indicator highly popular among bottom fishing anglers, particularly for sturgeon fishing and carp fishing.
Features & How it Works
- Pendulum mechanism: The ring is simply hung onto the fishing line, usually right after the first guide (ring) of the fishing rod.
- Bite detection: When a fish takes the bait and moves away, the line tightens and the ring rises toward the rod. If the fish swims toward the shore, creating slack in the line (a drop-back bite), the ring visibly drops.
- Illuminated signaling: In versions designed for night fishing, the ring features a dedicated slot for a chemical glow stick (starlight holder). By inserting a standard chemical or LED starlight (typically 3mm or 4.5mm), the ring becomes perfectly visible in the dark.
