The PAP Fiume float refers to a 1g - 6-gram river fishing float manufactured by the Italian brand PAP (known for premium match, bolognese, and river fishing accessories).
The Italian word "Fiume" translates directly to "River" in English. This specific float is custom-engineered to handle moving water, currents, and deep-river ledgering or bolognese styles.
Core Construction & Specs
The anatomy of a premium Italian river rig focuses on fluid weight distribution and high-end components to battle varying current speeds:
Main Line: Usually 0.14mm to 0.18mm low-visibility, high-abrasion monofilament to handle boulders and underwater snags.
Hooklength: Pre-tied with ultra-reliable fluorocarbon or light mono (typically 0.10mm to 0.14mm) measured exactly to 25cm–40cm for a natural drift.
River Floats (Galleggianti): Feature a teardrop or "body-down" shape with a carbon or fiberglass stem for extreme stability in choppy surface currents.
The Bulk (Torpille or Olivette): A streamlined, inline lead weight that acts as the primary anchor, carrying 60% to 80% of the float's total capacity down to the riverbed quickly.
Specialized Shotting Layouts
Ready-made river rigs are pre-balanced with specific dropper-shot configurations depending on how the river is moving:
The Stretched Passata Layout: Dropper shots are progressively spaced further apart toward the hook. This allows the bait to flutter smoothly ahead of the float when you hold the line back in a moderate current.
The Bulk & Dropper Layout: Features a heavy olivette fixed about 50–70cm from the hook, paired with 2 or 3 tiny dropper shots (No. 8 or No. 9). This layout drops straight down through fast upper currents to target fish feeding tightly on the bottom.
How to Select by Target Species & Water Type
For Barbel and Large Chub (Cavedano): Opt for heavy 3.0g to 6.0g rigs built on 0.16mm main line with forged, heavy-wire size 14–16 hooks capable of handling hard-fighting river fish.
For Bleak and Small Silverfish: Light 0.5g to 1.5g rigs paired with fine-wire size 18–20 hooks work best for delicate bait presentation in slower glides.
Deep/Fast Rivers: Select high-capacity rigs (4.0g+) to cut through the surface drag and keep your bait firmly in the strike zone.
